Comprehensive Planning at Palisades!

The process of determining the goals and objectives for our school district for the next three years is known as Comprehensive Planning and has been underway in Palisades and in other districts throughout the state.

The Comprehensive Planning Team has assessed the areas requiring additional focus and attention for these next three years in order to move Palisades School District forward.  This process takes the commitment of many stakeholders – we are happy to have had representation from across our district in this very important process.

At several meetings held beginning in December last year, the CPT analyzed and discussed a new mission and vision for the district – our new logo and mission statement is now being used.

Our new vision states:  Palisades School District is a community of learners.  Working collaboratively, we will provide a safe, enriching environment wherein all students can achieve academic excellence and demonstrate leadership.
In addition, the following “bucket” areas have been carved out as “focus areas” for the next three years, they include:

·         Academic Excellence

·         Leadership Development

·         Community Engagement

·         Enriching Environment (Wellness and Anti-Bullying Initiatives)

Part of this process was to determine our “beliefs” as part of process going forward – our team needed to agree that whatever actions are developed over the next three years, the following core competencies will hold true and will fall within our belief statements & action plans:

*  collaboration
*  communication skills

*  intellectual curiosity & creativity

*  independent problem solving

*  cultural understanding for civic & global engagement

*  self-awareness & self-evaluation

*  develop respect for self, individuals & diversity

Ultimately, our School Board of Directors will sanction which action steps will be funded depending on the budget implications for the school year.  The action plans will be presented to the School Board and the Strategic Planning budget will be compiled in the for the 2013-14 school year and presented as part of our budget presentations beginning on November 7th.  The board will vote on acceptance or rejection of the plan on November 7th at the School Board of Directors Meeting.
