Richard J. Heffernan, Jr. Principal
Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
Palisades High School continues to stress reading and writing across all content areas, which we believe will better prepare our students for the Keystone Exams, SATs, PSATs and the students’ post-secondary plans. In order to better monitor our students’ progress in reading, the high school will continue to use the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) tests similar to how the elementary and middle schools have used them. These tests will provide our teachers with an accurate measurement of student achievement and growth across time and help guide instruction to best meet the needs of the individual student.
Next week, all students will complete the spring administration of the MAP assessments. All assessments will be done online using our chromebook labs or our desktop computer labs. The assessment will take students approximately one hour to complete.
Julia Boardman, a PHS junior, recently qualified for the national FBLA competition in journalism. She has been working hard to prepare and fundraise for the upcoming competition that will take place in California during late-June. If you would like to help her get to California for the national competition, please consider a donation at her gofundme page, which can be accessed through this link https://www.gofundme.com/send-
Congratulations to the following students/groups who recently were recognized for their accomplishments:
According to Wikipedia, an Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The designation "Eagle Scout" was founded over one hundred years ago. Only four percent of Boy Scouts are granted this rank after a lengthy review process. And a Gold Award is the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts of the USA, earned by Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts. Only 5.4% of eligible Girl Scouts successfully earn the Gold Award. During this school year, the following students achieved either an Eagle Scout or Gold Scout designation: Zachary Boyd, Doug Koons, Will Thoman, Sam VanderGast, Sarah Dolbier, and Megan McGroarty.
