For the Week Ending 09/09/2011:
We hope that all of our families are safe through this trying (very wet) time.  Our thoughts are with all of you who have been affected by the flooding.

This past week we have been attempting to use Twitter...so, if you would like to follow me, you can do so @dvholmes61  If you tweet Palisades' news, please use #palisd - I will be posting school info. such as school delays, sports or other related news.  If you tweet school info., I can also re-tweet it, and pass the info. on...you have to love technology!

Finally, E-News bulletins will now be sent from a new e-mail address -  info@palisadessd.org - simply so that I can better manage the "bouncebacks" that I have been getting through this system.  For parents: if you change your e-mail address, we do automatically update it for our AlertNow system - which is used for "emergency" or "need to know" messages.  For everyone:  Palisades E-News is delivered through our Schoolwires Web site; you actively register to receive E-News by accessing the "register" button on our Web site.  It is helpful for you to update your Web site/E-News account if you change your e-mail address - any questions, please contact me at dholmes@palisadessd.org

The last thing...really...please send your notes and flyers for electronic distribution to dholmes@palisadessd.org so that it can be posted to E-News or to the E-Friday folders.

FROM PENNDOT:

September – school bus safety

It’s that time when school buses are everywhere. If a school bus has its lights flashing and stop arm extended, you must stop. The only exception is if you are on the other side of a highway divided by a concrete barrier or grassy median. If you are following or traveling alongside a school bus, the law also requires you to stop at least 10 feet away. Learn more about the school bus stopping law and penalties for violations at www.DriveSafePA.org.

PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A DONATION TO THESE CAUSES:

A former student:

Phil Calabrette is a former student of Palisades (Class of 2005) - he was seriously injured in a recent motorcycle accident.  A benefit is being held this weekend to help him and his family.  The event will be held at the Silver Creek AA on Saturday, 9/10 - click here for info.

Braden's Believers:

As many of you may know, Kathy Freier's (PHS secretary) 8 year old grandson, Braden, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 2 years ago.  In an effort to contribute to the JDRF, her family will be participating in the Walk for the Cure at Bucks County Community College on October 23rd with their team “Braden’s Believers”.    "Our hope is that a cure for this disease will be realized in the near future, as Juvenile Diabetes can be managed, but has many long-term effects.  Stem Cell Research/Artificial Pancreas technology is being developed and through funding will become a reality very soon," says Kathy.

If anyone would like to make a contribution  to their team,  any amount  would be greatly appreciated.  You may do so by giving a donation to Kathy Freier at PHS directly or by going on the JDRF website and making a donation by credit card, please be sure to specify the team name “Braden’s Believers”.  "Last year, through the generosity of our friends and family our team raised $3500.  Our goal this year is $5000."

Alzheimer's Association:

This year, a team of Palisades teachers will be participating in the Alzheimer's Assoc. Memory Walk on Sat., Oct. 1 at Kutztown University.  Thanks to those of you who have sponsored us in the past - we really appreciate your generosity.  Please consider sponsoring us again this year.  No amount is too small.  Many people have been touched by this illness in one way or another.  The scientific and medical communities are making great strides in understanding this disease.  Checks can be made out to Southeastern  PA Alzheimer's Assoc.   Please place donations in an envelope for Ann Kolb and mail/send into PALMS.  Thank you for your support!!!

UPCOMING BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHTS:

Back to School Nights will be held on 9/13 for PHS; 9/15 for Elementary Schools; and 9/22 for PALMS - all begin at 7PM.  The new salad bar will be featured at each school during that evening.  Come a little early to enjoy a sample from the salad bar!  We look forward to seeing you on that evening so that you may learn more about your child's classes for the school year, meet your child's teacher(s), as well as learn about each building's and our district's initiatives.
