FITZPATRICK

PALMS Welcomed Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick Today!

The students from Palisades Middle School welcomed Congressman Fitzpatrick today for a “town hall-style” meeting.  Students from our 7th and 8th grades spent one hour with the Congressman as he answered their questions, ranging from “What is your typical day like?” asked by Casey Hooper, to “Are you a supporter of fracking in Pennsylvania?”  The pointed questions were developed over the days preceding his visit with students and our Social Studies Department teachers.  Mr. Tim Kearns, a long-term substitute at PALMS, brought this visit to fruition.  Thanks to Mr. Kearns and the entire Social Studies Department, Congressman Fitzpatrick and Messrs. Baumgartner and Spering for providing this great educational opportunity for our young students!

We were able to provide live streaming of the event on our educational access channel (Service Electric 103.4 or 261 with a converter box), on our closed circuit channel at the school and on our Web site.  We will be posting a video on our site of the event soon!  We will keep you posted!

FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF OUR PHS STUDENTS:

We wanted to make you aware of an opportunity to participate in quarterly meetings with other parents and the high school’s administration.  Once each quarter, a small group of parents meets with the high school’s administrative team to learn about programs, school events, current or emerging issues and any other topic that might be of interest to parents.  The meetings are relatively informal with an open-dialogue among all participants.  These meetings are similar to the PTA/PTO groups that exist at the elementary schools and the middle school, but there is no fundraising.

Please be informed that our next meeting is on Tuesday, February 28th from 9:00-10:30 a.m. in the principal’s conference room.  The agenda for this meeting is as follows:

·         SEARCH Survey Results

·         Exam Days

·         Volunteers’ clearances

·         Elementary Reconfiguration

If you are planning to attend, we ask that you RSVP to Mrs. Tootsie Carty, PPN Chairperson, at tootsiecarty@hotmail.com

PARENTS OF PALMS TRACK ATHLETES:
If your son/daughter has signed up for the Palisades Middle School Track & Field Team, then the coaches are inviting you and your son/daughter to attend an organizational meeting for the 2012 season.  The meeting will take place on Tuesday February 28, 2012 at 7:00 pm in the middle school auditorium.

Palisades Track and Field is one of the most successful teams in the school’s history.  The Middle School team has proven to be one of the best in the Lehigh Valley over the last few years.  Last year both teams went undefeated in league competition and won the Southern Lehigh Invitational.  The girls’ team broke 11 school records and set a record point total at the Southern Lehigh Invitational. The boys set five new school records and tied one.  This year, we believe that both teams could prove to be just as exceptional!

The coaches would like to have the opportunity to explain the program to you and your child.  We cannot express the excitement we feel when we think about the opportunities your son/daughter could have with our team.  If you have any questions feel free to call any one of the coaches at school (610-847-5131), email jbeck@palisadessd.org or write a note.

 CIRCULATED BY SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP:

PRESS RELEASE FOR SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPT.
BUCKS COUNTY - PENNSYLVANIA
Springfield Twp. Police are warning residents about a fraudulent driveway sealcoating scam that occurred 02/20/12 between 1:30 and 3:00 p.m. A male operating a late model black, 4 dr. Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck solicitated an elderly man on Pleasant View Rd. as he was was returning from his mailbox. The victim agreed to have the man seal- coat the driveway. The male was accompanied by an adult female, two female children and one male child. The adult female was permitted to enter the house for the stated purpose of using the bathroom. The adult male knocked on the door and asked the victim to exit the home so that he could show him some things regarding the driveway job. The elderly man suspected that he was being victimized, but did exit the home for about 5 minutes. The elderly man returned to the home, and subsequently paid cash for the job. The subjects exited the house after they told the victim they were going to the truck to get a receipt. The victim heard the truck running and saw it leave the area towards Route 212. The victim subsequently determined that thousands of dollars worth of gold jewelry was stolen from the home.
Police request anyone witnessing this truck in the area on 02/20 and/or having more information to call the Springfield Township Police Department at (610) 346-7600. Police strongly suggest residents not permit strangers into their home under any circumstances. When in doubt, call police immediately, and have police respond to establish the intentions of the stranger.

COMING SOON...FIRST FRIDAYS AT THE OTTSVILLE FARMERS MARKET:
The Ottsville Farmers Market is thrilled to be headed into its 4th season! Every Friday from 4-8 pm April 27 - October 12, the market offers a place for local vendors to sell their vegetables, fruits, home made preserves, jellies, jams, salsas, pickles, natural ingredient soaps and cosmetics, locally roasted coffee, hand knit alpaca, llama and sheep wool, herbs and ornamental plants as well as seafood and cured meats. Our full season vendors are committed to being there every week rain or shine for the community. Market attendees enjoy meeting friends and family at the end of the work week and visiting their favorite producers who work hard to deliver delicious and quality products each week.

The market also offers promotional opportunities for non profits and local businesses. A free table is available for non profits and local business sponsors to promote their upcoming events. We have fun with scheduled events including egg races, recipe contests (and tasting), ping pong tournaments, featured chef tastings, yoga class and even a belly dancing performance!

This year we are partnering with the Palisades School District to showcase upcoming activities to the market community. The first Friday of each month the market will highlight and feature a Palisades club, upcoming event, class project or fun craft activity. The Ottsville Farmers Market will provide a free table to the Palisades organizer and promote the activity in our weekly newsletter, website and facebook pages. Please let us know which date your club would like to organize an activity (if you need an additional date besides the first Friday, we would be glad to add it to the program).

Ideas:
Promote school theater programs and sell tickets! Provide class project demonstrations! Fundraise for school trips! Showcase athletic team demos or contests! Sell Fresh Food for Palisades lemonade or healthy cafeteria treats! Create a movie night or ping pong competition! Offer planting projects or composting demos! ALL IDEAS ARE WELCOME!

Please send us the topic and the date you would like to attend to dholmes@palisadessd.org - to coordinate with the Ottsville Farmers Market. Of course we also look forward to seeing you at any of our markets from April 27th - October 12th! ! If you love having fresh local produce in our community, family sponsorship options (attached) are also available.  Please email kp@thekitchenpotager.com with questions.
