e-mail-rheffernan@palisadessd.org March 1, 2012 Dear 11th grade students and parents: All 11th grade students will be taking the state mandated PSSA Mathematics, Reading, Writing and Science tests beginning March 13th through April 4th. In an effort to minimize the disruption to the educational program during the testing window, we have developed a testing schedule which will rotate class periods each testing day (please review the attached schedule). Students will arrive to school at their normal time and attend classes as regularly scheduled. However, they will report to their testing location on the respective day and class period. At the conclusion of the test, students will complete the remainder of their regular school schedule. “Late arrival” students must report to school by 7:40 a.m. when the test is being given during period 1. “Early Dismissal” students must stay for period 4 when the test is being given during that time. The Pennsylvania Department of Education has communicated to us that all students must score at the “proficient” or “advanced” levels to qualify for graduation. Additionally, we are required to place the student’s PSSA scores on his/her high school transcript. Plenty of sleep and a good breakfast are recommended to maximize performance. Please encourage your child to take this test seriously and to do his/her very best. One last reminder, junior students should bring their own calculators to testing. The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires that all programs and/or information stored on calculators which is not factory installed must be deleted prior to using the calculator on any section of the PSSA. Furthermore, students and parents are reminded that cell phones are not permitted during the school day and are never permissible during testing. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call me at 610-847-5131 extension 2004. Sincerely, Richard J Heffernan, Jr. Principal
